The Farm
Co-operative Market Plots / Raised Beds
Each homestead will have a dedicated 800ft² of market plot allocated to each household to cover all of their annual vegetable needs. This space is supported with primary infrastructure, including raised planter beds, central irrigation, rodent and animal fencing, basic ground cover, row covers, communal mulch and compost.
Rotating Field Crops
A combination of Corn, Beans, Squash and Pumpkins are recommended to be grown in the rotating field crops zones, seeded by the members of the cooperative and transplanted using a small tractor seeding implement.
U-pick Berry Plot
Market-sized plots of agricultural production space to be dedicated to berry crops that the community can pick within certain periods of time (or) with allotted amounts per cooperative member.
Berry crop recommendations include:
Strawberries, raspberries, haskap berries, elderberry, gooseberry and blackberry.
Food Forest Zone 1
Forest ‘Zone 1’ will focus on nut trees, reforestation and species at risk, including, but not limited to; Black walnut, hazelnut, chestnut, spruce, maple and butternut.
Food Forest Zone 2
Forest 'Zone 2' features staggered fruit and nut trees along the trail parallel to Grey Road 40.
Recommended species include:
Plums, pears, apples, and cherries.
Seeding Infrastructure
Shared infrastructure supports seed starting and plant propagation for cooperative members' annual crops. Some space will also propagate trees, fruits, and native plants for community-wide vegetation strategy.
Perennial Herb, Medicine & Pollinator Gardens
Perennial herb and medicine gardens will be located throughout the community trail network as a source of natural and traditional remedies for use by all cooperative members.
Plant recommendations include:
Wild bergamot, echinacea, calendula, chamomile, cornflower, feverfew, lavender, bee balm, lemon verbena and wild blue indigo.
Beehives / Apiary
A community cooperative partnership with the farm manager or local beekeeper will leverage experience and professionalism to set up and manage hives on the property.
